Our Program

The House of Hope of Madison County, Inc. is a 28 bed “halfway house program” or transitional residential facility for adult males addicted to alcohol and/or drugs. The focus of the program is to assist the client to stay clean and sober while learning skills needed for self-sufficiency.  Ideally, the individual stays 180 days as they transition after first 90 days, to one of our three quarter houses.  The goals for each client include:  successful completion of our program by remaining drug and alcohol free as well as compliant with service plan.  The orientation of the program is 12 step based.

The target audience is adult males who are at least 18 years old and addicted to alcohol and/or drugs.  Typically, they are unemployed, homeless and without any resources. Many no longer have supportive families and are facing serious legal problems, all of which are a direct result of the disease of addiction.  Some of the residents come directly from treatment; some from jail or prison and many come from the “street”.

Admission criteria includes; 1. Diagnosis of chemical dependency; 2. Medically stable, including clear of withdrawal symptoms which may require medical intervention; 3. Psychiatrically stable- an absence of mental health which would preclude him form working or participating in the HOH program; 4.  High level of motivation for recovery and willingness to follow the rules of HOH.

Residents will be discharged after successful completion of the program.  Other discharges can occur if the resident uses alcohol or drugs, or substantially breaks other rules.  At least two staff will discuss these discharges before implementing.  Residents may also be discharged due to extenuating circumstances such as family emergency, incarceration or significant health issues.

The program design is a combination of counseling, skill building, education, assessment, individualized treatment planning, case management, development of relationships in the recovering community, and utilization of the peer group.  The on-site therapist uses insight oriented therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Confidentiality and privacy of all resident records are protected under IC 16-39 and 42 CFR 2 and are the property of the House of Hope.
